Hand carved wooden mask from Nepal with a row of grinning teeth.

Not only does this magnificent carved wooden mask have an alarming grin, the upright lines at the top of the head suggest hair standing on end, the carved circles around the white painted eyes and the white painted, odd numbered teeth add to the manic expression.

Hand carved from one piece of dark wood this mask has a nice patina, the carving is clear, the teeth and eye sockets are whitened with kaolin.

This mask would be used in village theatre or to keep spirits away from a house or village.
